This Jelly is one of the last few active products that I will review this year. If you follow me on Instagram, then you may know that I was prescribed a hydroquinone cream in June, so this is the ultimate product that I had managed to squeeze in for trialing before I had to start the treatment. If you read me regularly, you know that I struggle with IPL-induced redness that doesn’t go away, which is why I need to use hydroquinone. Testing any new active products at the same time would give me skewed results, and I don’t write reviews based on packaging or texture, so I will post reviews of products that I have already drafted, but anything new that I will try out will be on the milder side.  

Transino are one of the leaders among complexion brightening treatment makers in Japan. One of the key products in their lineups are dietary supplements and skincare with tranexamic acid (TA). Their inventions are well-researched and formulated to provide visible results, and this year’s release, the Whitening Jelly Lotion, packs a punch. 

The main ingredient in the formula is tranexamic acid encapsulated in microspheres to penetrate deeper into the skin. To boost the skin brightening properties, we can find here calcium pantetheine sulfonate. This vitamin B5 derivative, in studies, shows to inhabit tyrosine, an amino acid present in the skin, which takes part in the pigment production processes. Transino also promise us that the product will prevent dryness and improve the skin’s overall condition thanks to the special EX ingredients. Thus we can find in the formula the always in vogue glycerine, dimethicone, and the lesser-known trehalose, all of which keep the skin hydrated and supple. There is also a host of skin-soothing elements such as antioxidant-rich mulberry root extract, marshmallow root extract, marjoram leaf extract, and isodonis japonicus extract; the latter is quite popular in Japanese skincare commonly found in Shiseido’s products such as the Future Solution LX Concentrated Balancing Softener. The Jelly is free of fragrance and suitable for all skin types.

I like this moisturiser a lot, not only for its brightening properties but also solely as a moisturiser. I’d buy this Jelly even if it didn’t have anything exciting in it because it melts into my skin. It sort of reminds me of Clinique’s Moisture Surge, but without the siliconey feeling. Even though it has glycerine in its base and some silicones, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. Don’t get me wrong, glycerine is an excellent humectant, but moisturisers based on it tend to be on the heavier side, and in summer, glycerine makes me shinier and sweatier, especially if I follow up with sunscreen. Before July, it was a joy to use; now, I only use this moisturiser at nighttime. It makes my skin soft and plump, very hydrated, even the area underneath my eyes, which always requires extra care. 

This Jelly also proves to work well against discolouration: red marks left by spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, even mild tan. It lightens them all. It takes a few days to observe the first changes, and with continuous use, you will see pretty good results. I’d recommend pairing this product with other brightening treatments that include ascorbic acid, niacinamide, glycolic or lactic acid. Of course, this product will not be very effective for chronic pigmentation issues such as melasma, but it can bring some improvement. 

Overall, it’s a fantastic moisturiser; it does what it says on the tin. It improves the condition of the skin by raising the moisture levels and evening out discolouration. It is an excellent option for people who seek multi-tasking skincare; honestly, this can be the only product you use along with your SPF.
