Last week, I decided to use LuLuLun Kyoto Premium Mask Tea Flower every day. I had bought a package of 7 pieces, and since they are in one bag, I thought it would be best to use them up as soon as possible. Before buying, I’d had no idea what these masks were supposed to do. I got them from Yesstyle, and there wasn’t much information available. The masks are supposed to give elasticity, firmness, and gloss according to Yesstyle. It’s a limited edition for the Kyoto region. Apparently, in Japan brands do limited editions restricted to areas, but it is available to retailers from abroad like Yesstyle or littlewonderland.nl. I have found the ingredients list on littlewonderland.nl, which is an online shop selling Asian beauty products.

Ingredients: PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil (PEG-40), water, glycerin, propanediol, ascorbyl glucoside, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, green tea leaf extract, green tea flower extract, green tea seed oil, silkworm cocoon extract, autumn leaves extract, cherry leaf extract, , xanthan gum, citric acid, Na citrate, K hydroxide K, EDTA – 2 Na, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, fragrance, BG 

In the list, for me, the most exciting ingredients are glycerine, vitamin C derivative (ascorbyl glucoside), panthenol, hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate), green tea extracts, and silkworm cocoon extract. Overall, the essence is a mix of humectants, a brightening agent, soothing panthenol, and plant extracts. Silkworm cocoon extract a bit surprised me, I don’t think I’ve ever used anything with it before, but it’s supposedly a potent humectant, growing in popularity. Well, the time will show. Another unusual ingredient is autumn leaves extract; I have no idea what it is. Perhaps just yellow leaves or mistranslation? Anyway. There’s also fragrance, not an extortionate amount, you sense it at the beginning, but either my nose got used to it after the second use, or most of it evaporated. It didn’t irritate me, but if you are sensitive to fragrance, it might be a problem.

So how were the actual masks? Overall, they were great, and I am sure that I would repeat the 7-day sheet masking routine. The fit of the masks is fine; they are a bit too small for my face, but they cover most of it. They adhere wonderfully; there was no need for my silicone sheet mask cover. They stayed in place all the time, I would put one of them right after the shower, and then I could do my body routine without the mask falling off. They also don’t dry out too quickly you can comfortably wear them 20-25 minutes. I like to take off sheet masks when they start to get dry.

The essence was not too thick, but it was a bit sticky, though. I could definitely feel it on my hands after applying, and I had to pat the essence onto my face after taking off the sheet. The masks were soaked quite intensively, I would say (no leaking issues), but sadly there wasn’t much of the essence left at the bottom of the package. 

After the first use, I noticed that my skin was moisturised a bit plump, something similar to using any other sheet mask. After about the 3rd use, my skin started to glow, literally. It was hydrated, brighter, radiant, and bouncy. It was also incredibly soft! The ingredients started to kick in. After the next few uses, the effects intensified especially the bouncy feeling. At the end the package my skin was much brighter, plumper, and the skin tone was even. My face looked as if I had put on a few kilos during that week. I also noticed that the dehydration lines around my eye area substantially decreased, I would say by half. I was impressed by the results. It wasn’t just a regular sheet masking session. I am writing this review three days after finishing using the masks, and most of the results are still visible. I would say that my skin isn’t as plump and bouncy as before, but it still feels pretty hydrated.

The only downside is that they made me break out about day 4, and it continued until the end. I am sure it wasn’t anything else, but these masks as I kept my routine simple. A few whiteheads appeared in my T-zone, where I am quite oily. They were easy to pop, and I covered them with Cosrx patches (of course after disinfecting the area). For me it was a normal reaction to a very moisturising product; it didn’t happen for the first time. The masks were too moisturising for my skin. So if you are acne-prone or oily, then please bear it in mind. Perhaps it would be better to use them less frequently. However, anyone with dry skin would love using these sheet masks daily. It’s an excellent way to boost hydration.

I think that the experience was enjoyable. Besides the hydration and glow that we all expect from a sheet mask, it was very relaxing to apply a mask and rest for at least 15 minutes each day. I enjoyed using these sheet masks, especially as they were adhering to my face so well. I could do other things without tilting my head backwards. Overall, I am happy with the results; my face was hydrated and radiant. I will for sure repeat this type of routine in the winter, as my skin gets pretty dry during cold months.
