I came across La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Overnight Moisturiser a long time ago. It was when I wanted to find a dupe for Cerave PM moisturiser as I hadn’t had access to it. This product is alike; it provides similar texture and results, but different ingredients. It’s one of the best products from LRP for me.

So what is it?:

‘Specifically formulated for every sensitive, reactive skin prone to dryness, tightness, redness, itchiness or burning. A formula proven to soothe, hydrate and reduce skin sensitivity night after night. Suitable for allergy-prone skin’ 

Active ingredients: ‘Enriched with neurosensine, niacinamide, carnosine and vitamin A, plus soothing Thermal Spring Water to help skin improve its natural barrier and instantly soothe irritated skin.’ And of course no parabens, fragrance, alcohol.

This cream is basically the Rosaliac AR Serum on steroids, or the serum is a stripped down version of this moisturiser. I mean the Rosaliac AR Serum seems like a rip-off compared to this cream. Both of them have the same peptide, neurosensine, and the spring water, which is so essential for the effectiveness of the serum, as for this cream. The only difference being that this moisturiser does not contain the Amazonian plant extract, whose efficacy is doubtful anyway.

This moisturiser is lovely and light. It doesn’t clog pores and moisturises skin very well. I used it during my retinoid treatment, and it was pretty helpful. I must agree with all the things LRP claim: it works for dryness, tightness, redness, itchiness, and burning. It helped me a lot in adjusting to retinoids. As I said in my Rosaliac AR Serum review, I have a problem with redness, but it’s manageable, and this product helped me reduce it. It didn’t erase the redness; I think nothing can, especially on my cheeks. However, the redness became less prominent.
Most importantly, it kept my skin hydrated. No surprise there, as it contains many great ingredients, as mentioned above, but also glycerine, squalane, shea butter, and dimethicone which all help to moisture the skin. It also contains, what is a better choice than extracts from Amazonian plants, carnosine, which is an antioxidant that was proven to soothe the skin, not only by L’Oréal sponsored research.

The cream is lighter than Cerave PM moisturiser, but I would say that it works as, or even more, effectively. Of course, Carave PM has different ingredients; it also contains ceramides. Similarly to Cerave PM, Toleriane Ultra includes niacinamide great for discolouration and increasing the production of ceramides in the skin, so you get them after all. However, I find LRP moisturiser more delicate to the skin than Cerave PM, because it has never irritated me after shaving, whereas, it happened with Cerave a couple of times. It all depends on the state of my face, but it just proves that Toleraine Ultra is soothing. There are also different moisturisers in the Toleraine line, but I’ve never tried them. They seem to be good, but like the Rosaliac Serum, they don’t contain many ingredients. Any of them will make an excellent, plain moisturiser if someone needs.

One thing, though, that annoys me is the packaging. The bag that is inside of the bottle wastes a lot of product; not all of it comes out. LRP are so proud of the pump that allows for the use of fewer preservatives because it doesn’t let the air inside, but the rest of the bottle is cheap ass saving money technology.

Overall, it is a decent moisturiser. It moisturises, soothes and helps with facial redness. LRP are a dermatological brand, so the inclusion of irritants is decreased to a minimum. I don’t think it will disappoint anyone; it is packed with a lot of good ingredients. It contains more active ingredients than the Rosaliac AR Serum. This moisturiser includes many more components and works better for a lesser price. It’s definitely suitable for all skin types, especially reactive skins. It shouldn’t cause breakouts, and I think it would satisfy people with very dry skin; well at least as a day cream.
