Hada Labo Shirojyun Premium Medicated Deep Whitening Lotion – Review

In 2022, I switched from Hada Labo Tokyo’s toner to the Hada Labo lotions because Hada Labo Tokyo’s prices had increased. In my opinion, it doesn’t make sense to overpay for the same product.

I’ve been using the Shirojyun Medicated Deep Whitening Lotion (rich/moist type) for over a year. It is aimed at drier skin types, but the ingredients are the same for both at varying concentrations. The active components are tranexamic acid and glycyrrhizic acid, which reduce reddening, irritation, and skin discolouration caused by UV rays. There’s also a vitamin C derivative to boost the whiteningproperties of the lotion, but I wouldn’t rely on it for reducing hyperpigmentation. For hydration, there are three types of hyaluronic acid and glycerine. The product is free of fragrance and suitable for all skin types.

After swapping the regular lotion for the moist type, I couldn’t notice much difference. My skin enjoys them both equally. The moist type is denser and takes more time to absorb, but it provides a tad more hydration in return. I tend to smother myself with the lotion from my face down to my chest as soon as I get out of the shower to lock in the moisture and prepare my skin for other steps. I particularly enjoy applying it after shaving, as it’s soothing and creates a cushioning layer on the skin that suppresses any sensation of burning or itching that may occur after shaving, thanks to the addition of tranexamic acid and glycyrrhizic acid. Though expect little of a brightening effect from this product, the concentration of actives is relatively low.

Hada Labo lotions are fantastic; everyone can benefit from using one, but I’m particularly pleased with this one as the acids truly make a difference. There are various types of Hada Labo lotions, and I am sure you’ll find one that suits your needs the most.
