Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution – Review

Here’s a review of another hydrating product from Clinique, the Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution.

Clinique’s claims about the product:

24-hour hydrator with Clean Shield Technology™ locks in the good—like moisture—and filters out the bad.
Strengthens skin’s moisture barrier and improves resiliency.
Unique water-jelly texture feels fresh, penetrates quickly.
Oil-free formula is non-sticky, leaves no residue.
Skin is smooth, strong and healthy with a pure, clean glow. (clinique.co.uk)

Here’s what they say about the ingredients:

‘Clean Shield Technology™ is formulated with a moisture barrier blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract to strengthen skin’s barrier, improve its resiliency, and balance and retain skin’s moisture levels.’ (clinique.co.uk)

Technically, it’s an oil-free, gel-type moisturiser. It contains a mix of skin-moisturising ingredients along with plant extracts that are supposed to hydrate the skin and protect from outdoor aggressors – pollution. Overall, the product is pleasant to use; it’s light and moisturises the skin. I have combination skin – oily T-zone and the rest is normal to dry, depends on the season. This product is great as a part of a multi-step routine, but on its own, it isn’t enough for me. I have to reapply it around my mouth and on my cheeks throughout the day because my skin doesn’t feel hydrated sufficiently while using this product alone. During warm days, it can be used on its own with creamy, hydrating sunscreens. Mineral or mattifying sunscreen don’t pair well with this product. I also like to use this gel with vitamin C products like The Inkey List Vitamin C Serum, as it’s thick and difficult to apply on its own. This moisturiser does an excellent job loosening the dense paste.

This moisturiser is not the most hydrating product out there. It provides some moisture, and it includes extracts & antioxidants – pretty basic, I would say. I’d expected the gel to be more hydrating, but it wasn’t. It’s suitable for everyone, regardless of skin type and age. I don’t think there’s something in particular that can cause problems. If you have dry skin, make sure you use a good hydrating serum beforehand, and it won’t be of any use in winter.
