CosRx AC Collection Blemish Spot Clearing Serum – Review

I am not sure what to say about this product, there are a lot of claims, but not many results.

My first issues arise with the ingredients of this serum. It is supposed to be spot and blemish (in my understanding hyperpigmentation) clearing, but there isn’t enough in the formula to deliver these effects. We can find here soothing propolis extract, derivatives from Centella asiatica, and a few hydrating ingredients. The only active ingredient, known to help with pimples and hyperpigmentation, is niacinamide, but it’s not that great on its own. Going back to propolis extract, it usually is slightly oily/viscous, if I think of dietary supplements with propolis they are never water-like. However, this serum is pretty much like water; it resembles Hada Labo’s hydrating lotions, but there is no water in the ingredients list, which makes me wonder if CosRx are truthful about the ingredients. This serum is transparent and watery, yet it contains no water. The ingredients list seems fishy to me. Anyway, two components of concern are tea tree oil which can be sensitising and an epidermal growth factor (EGF) – it can contribute to the growth of healthy skin, but it can also contribute to the expansion of cancerous cells. It doesn’t cause cancer, but if you have some cancerous cells in the skin, there’s a possibility of increasing their growth. The scientific world hasn’t agreed on this subject yet, but EGFs are a polarising issue. I am putting it out there, so just you know.

As I’ve said above, I don’t know what to say about this serum. It feels like water, and it almost works like water. It’s wasn’t hydrating enough for my skin even in summer, which is usually the period when my skin needs the least moisturisers. I won’t comment on any anti-blemish properties, because they are negligible. I hadn’t got enormous expectations before using this serum, but it didn’t deliver a lot. I don’t know why CosRx make so many claims, because they’ve chosen ingredients that aren’t much effective for controlling acne. Niacinamide can help a bit, but alone it won’t do miracles. A multi-step approach is vital, and you can find niacinamide in a lot of products, I mean a lot. All in all, it’s an underwhelming product.

One more thing, if you buy four mini-sized bottles of this product, you’ll pay half the price of the regular-sized bottle at cosrx.com.

You can also get the serum from Yesstyle.com [aff].
