La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Sensitive Areas Stick SPF 50+ – Review

A few days ago, I was doing spring cleaning, and I found this stick. I bought this product last year, but I didn’t use much of it.

This sunscreen contains a mix of chemical filters, one of them is L’Oreal’s Mexoryl XL, and micronised titanium dioxide. It has a fatty base featuring glycerine, castor seed oil, cocoa seed butter, shea butter, soybean oil. According to La Roche-Posay, this product was formulated using patented technology, XL-Protect, which provides a high level of protection against UVA and UVB rays thanks to the mix of titanium dioxide with chemical filters. There’s no fragrance in this product. The ratings for this product are: SPF 50+ & PPD 26.

From the anti-UV perspective, this stick is fantastic, but the finish is terrible. It is almost everything that La Roche Posay promise us it isn’t. This sunscreen is described as ‘non-greasy’, with such a high amount of oils, how is that even possible? And let me tell you, it is as oily as butter. It glides on skin, it doesn’t dry down, and it creates streaks, ridges between its layers. So either you get a thicker line of sunscreen or a row without sunscreen at all. The only way to apply this product evenly is by spreading it with fingers, but then it defeats the purpose of using a sunscreen stick. Also, this product makes everything greasy. I had to wash my sunglasses every day after using this sunscreen because they were coated with it. I didn’t use it all over my face just in strategic points like the bridge of my nose and the sides where my sunglasses rest, also a few other small zones. It’s not like other sunscreens don’t dirty my sunglasses, but this one was particularly messy.

Another claim, ‘no white marks’ – it leaves white marks. Whether you apply it on its own or over another sunscreen, it leaves a white cast. Also, if you think you can use this stick for both your face/body and lips, then forget about it. This product will make your lips look ashy as if you used a piece of chalk to colour them.

All in all, it’s a no from me.
