Dear, Klaris Midnight Blue Calming Cream – Review

This is the final review of the series. I should really write more often… Many of you have probably heard about this cream, as it has been popular for years. I used it for the first time this past year.

The unique feature of this cream is its main component, azulene, after which the product gets its name as it colours everything blue, like the midnight sky. It’s rich in antioxidants, known to lessen inflammation and skin reddening. Emollient ingredients such as glycerine, jojoba oil, and shea butter are also present. Moreover, the cream includes the highly popular centella asiatica, ceramide NP, hyaluronic acid, and other exciting ingredients like peptides, which stimulate skin-repairing processes.

I’d read a lot about this cream before buying it, so I had pretty high expectations of it. I’d kept it stashed away until the autumn to see how it would perform when my skin was dry and often irritated by the harsher weather conditions. When I finally opened it in November, I was a bit disillusioned. I expected a product similar to SVR’s Sebiaclear Cream, which is rich but not greasy; it is my absolute favourite, whereas this product is a hybrid between gel and cream. I can’t deny that it comforts the skin, but it isn’t that moisturising. It’s a decent, calming moisturiser, but it’s not something that I’d pick when my skin is dehydrated and irritated; it has a thin texture. Around December, I switched to a thicker cream because this product wasn’t cutting it.

While the cream may not have met my expectations, it delivers on its promises. Dear, Klaris’ main claim is that it’s an azulene-rich cream that soothes the skin. However, I wonder if azulene does it or whether it’s the blend of all ingredients in the product. I believe this cream is slightly overrated. If you need a calming moisturiser with a more modern texture, then this is an option to consider. It can be helpful for people with skin prone to irritation, especially during warmer months when you don’t want to smother yourself in unctuous balms. o
